Non-MSX machines

blueMSX is shipped with different non-MSX machines; the required system roms are generally stored for each machine in a dedicated subdirectory of the directory Machines. The Sega SG-1000 console and the SC-3000 computer do not require a system rom to be fully emulated.

Coleco machines

Only the ColecoVision console is yet supported, this console has 4 non-expanded slots, 1 cartridge slot, 1 Kb Mirrored RAM and 16 Kb VRAM.

You can also use the Spectravideo SVI-603 Coleco game adapter, the ColecoVision with the Opcode Memory Extension (16 Kb RAM) or the Bit Corporation Dina : it's a ColecoVision console with a built-in game; if you don't insert a Coleco cartridge, than the built-in game (Meteoric Shower) will start automatically.

The video frequency is 60 Hz, but you can manually switch to 50 Hz in the Options/Emulation menu.

We hope to emulate in a future version the ColecoAdam computer that has more features.

Sega machines

Three Sega machines are emulated by blueMSX : the SG-1000 console, the SC-3000 and SF-7000 computers.

Sega Game-1000 and Sega Computer-3000 have 4 non-expanded slots, 1 cartridge slot, 2 Kb Mirrored RAM and 16 Kb VRAM. The SC-3000 can run games or applications that require a keyboard. The Sega BASIC comes on cartridges that have their own RAM (16 or 32 Kb).

SF-7000 is an extension for SC-3000, transforming it into a Super Control Station with 1 disk drive, 4 non-expanded slots, 1 cartridge slot, 64 Kb RAM and 16 Kb VRAM. A system disk is required to use the Sega Disk Basic.

The video frequency is 60 Hz, but you can manually switch to 50 Hz in the Options/Emulation menu.

We hope to emulate in a future version the Sega Master System with its advanced video mode.

Spectravideo machines

Five SVI machines are emulated by blueMSX. They have 4 non-expanded slots, 1 cartridge slot, 1 tape port, 16 Kb VRAM and a QWERTY keyboard.

The video frequency is 50 Hz, but you can manually switch to 60 Hz in the Options/Emulation menu.

Differences between these machines concern mainly the RAM, the addition of a drive and the presence of a second video card :

    RAM   Drive   Second video card
SVI-318   16 Kb   No   No
SVI-328   64 Kb   Yes   No
SVI-328 80 Column   160 Kb   Yes   Yes (for 80 columns)
SVI-328 80 Swedish   160 Kb   Yes   Yes (for 80 columns)
