How to get more memory to run some MSX games
?
Some MSX games require more
free memory to run : press on F12
(= Reset), then press on Left Ctrl or
on Left or Right Shift during
the boot sequence, until you hear a beep (it
will de-activate the second drive or both
drives)
Can I also run zipped rom games ?
Yes, but the procedure with double click
is not available for zipped rom games
- if only one rom game is in the zip file, it
is loaded directly
- if there are many rom games in the zip file,
a dialog where you have to select which rom
game to load from the zip file is shown
How to do with the Konami
combinations (one rom in slot 1, one rom in
slot 2) ?
See this page
How to run Metal Gear and Metal
Gear 2 Solid Snake ?
These games can only be runned on MSX2, MSX2+
and MSXturboR machines.
If the rom you use is detected by the
emulator in its database, it's very easy :
just insert the rom in a slot cartridge, then
press on F12.
If the rom you use is not detected by the
emulator in its database, then you need to
precise the mapper type in the Insert
Cartridge dialog : it's "Konami"
for Metal Gear and "KonamiSCC" for
Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake.
Some special keys :
F1 to pause game
F2 to select weapon
F3 to select item
F4 to use transceiver
N or M to punch
Spacebar to fire weapon
Spacebar + N to duck/dive in Metal Gear 2
Solid Snake
You can find on the Net many websites with
detailed explanations about the games. We
recommend especially :
- in English : http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/msx/
- in French : http://mgworld.free.fr/
The easiest way to run these games is to
download, install and run the special package
blueMSX + Metal Gear + Metal Gear 2 Solid
snake (English versions) : http://www.angelfire.com/mech/msxmetalgearpc/
How to avoid that blueMSX starts
automatically a game ?
- de-activate the option Reset After
Insert/Remove in the File / Cartridge menu
- choose procedure 1, 2 or 3 (menu, toolbar
or hotkey)
It doesn't work ! What must I do
?
- if you have choosen procedure 1, 2 or
3 (menu, toolbar or hotkey), you have maybe
de-activated the option Reset After Insert/Remove
in the File / Cartridge menu : press on F9
(= Run) or on F12 (= Reset)
to start the game
- some MSX games are only for MSX2
or higher and you are running a MSX1 machine
: choose a MSX2 machine in the menu Options /
Emulation or in the menu Tools / Machine
Editor, and try again to start the game
- some Sega games are only for SC-3000
or SF-7000 computer and you are running the
SG-1000 console : choose SC-3000 or SF-7000
in the menu Options / Emulation or in the
menu Tools / Machine Editor, and try again to
start the game
- some MSX games or applications can work
correctly only if a joystick is configured or
a mouse is selected in the Input Editor
- some Sega games start or work correctly
only if both joysticks are configured in the Input Editor
- some games are not yet in the
database and use a special mapper : if you
know the mapper type, you can complete one of
the files related to the blueMSX extern rom databases
and try again to start the game. You can also
precise the mapper type in the open rom
dialog, see these pages for more precisions :
ROM mapper type
- I/O mapper type.
- the game YAKSA must be
runned in a MSX2 machine with only one
extended slot and it must be the slot 3; so,
you need to use the Machine editor to create
yourself such a generic MSX2 or to select a
specific MSX2 with only the slot 3 as
extended slot.
- if the emulator seems to be
blocked, try always to press on F12
(= Reset) to start again the emulator and the
game
- some games or demos don't work at all
or have different problems : it can be a bug
in the VDP emulation, the Z80 emulation or
you have maybe discovered a new mapper type ;
please report the problem on the blueMSX
forum, we will try to fix it !
